Gerege is the passport of diplomats used within the Great Mongol Empire. It is also a group that aspires to preserve the spirit of this pass and the talisman, to propagate music with complete immunity.

Created in 2023, this new Mongolian quartet based in the Czech Republic explores the traditional musical universe, following the heritage of the musicians from the four corners of Mongolia.

Gerege uses khöömii, various throat singing techniques, clear vocals and traditional instruments such as the horse-head fiddle morin khuur and the lute tovshuur. Its repertoire consists of praise songs, traditional and popular Mongolian songs, and instrumental pieces from the different Mongolian ethnic groups.

The inventive contribution of the self-taught percussionist introduces a coloring sometimes tending towards jazz and when his guitar accompanies the fiddle and the lute, a tinge of folk resurfaces. While the fiddle player and the singer are graduates of the University of Arts and Culture in Ulaanbaatar, the throat singer has been immersed in khöömii since his childhood in the Altai Mountains.

Gerege, the Mongolian musical passport or playing music in the world with total immunity!
